Extended Family Photo Shoots on Oahu
I get a lot of inquires for large family photo shoots. I absolutely love them. I am not in the least afraid of them. I consider “extended large size” family photo shoots, any family size from 9-20 or more is what I would say is a large family by quantity. Usually, these are multi-generational families coming to Oahu, Hawaii for a once in a lifetime vacation. A family photo shoot would be a great memory to commemorate the occasion… because when will you all be together again at one time and at the SAME time?! Family photography in this case is of utmost importance. My advice is to hire someone who knows what they are doing with their equipment and who knows what to do to corral your family into the one hour or so of time the photo shoot is held and invest in what they can do for you. *Raises hand and waves*.. that’s me!!! Let me walk you through some examples of what I do during my family photo shoot with you with multiple families in one extended family.
I will always break down the extended family into their family cluster. So if I have 4 families and grandparents.. I will start with “family 1”, “family 2”, “family 3”, “family 4”, grandparents, grandparents with kids, cousins, solo portraits of each child and so on. This beautiful family above, you can see more of their shoot HERE, was FOUR generations and totalled 36 in all. We did it all in a little over an hour’s worth of time at sunset… and it was AWESOME!

Not quite 36, but still not just one family, but two vacationing together and wanting to take advantage of the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii. I will take several group shots for you to choose from. This one was a sunset session.. isn’t the sky just gorgeous?
Again, I take each families aside and they have a small “mini” shoot of their own.

For this family of nine, it was the matriarchs anniversary and with them was their daughter and her family and their son and his family. .. of course we take some fun silly photos too!

Families with babies are fun… they are usually the “star” of the show and always get center front row status!

This was a Once in A Lifetime shoot with the matriarchs 50th wedding anniversary. It was their dream to come back to Hawaii where he was stationed as a young man, with their children and grandchildren.

Another fun session large extended family beach session… they were also celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and one of the daughters wanted this photo shoot to be a special gift to them. They also brought along their Aunt for the trip.

So again, when you are seeking a photographer on Oahu to photograph your extended large family, quality is key!! You might go with a photographer that will give you a lot of “quantity”, but what’s the use when they’re not great portraits? Find a professional who knows what they are doing with their equipment, who know’s how to pose large groups and makes you feel comfortable and how to make it fun (especially when you are a deer caught in the headlights when a big camera is pointed to you). Find a professional whose portfolio of work speaks to you. When you invest in their services you will be assured a great experience and a great product you will be happy with. These are photos of a lifetime with you and your family and you might not get another “Once in a Lifetime” chance with your family. I hope to hear from you soon!!
