Things to Do, Hiking in Oahu, Professional Photographer
A very good friend and I recently hiked up a short trail near the Waianae coast. The Waianae coast is out west past KoOlina Resort area where the Disney Aulani Resort is located. A little ways past that, you drive into Waianae. It was a gorgeous day, gentle breezes and this breathtaking view at the top.
I like easy hikes. Not more than 75 minutes to get to the destination, spend some time at the beautiful destination and the to make hike back out, this is my kind of hiking. Not more than 3 1/2 hours round trip. This one was a bit of an incline going all the way up, my heart was beating fast, pushing with each step up that side of the mountain. Honestly, it was all worth it for this view. Look at that beautiful beach… I’m so glad photography is in my soul. It goes hand in hand with capturing such beautiful things.
There are three war era bunkers known as pillboxes. I was taking my photos from the roof of the second pillbox. I am afraid of heights and I going to be honest when I say that it is an unnerving feeling standing up on the roof of the pillbox… but it was a clear day and I just had to learn to savor the moment and trust that I would be fine. .. and I was!
Those mountains are just gorgeous. The texture and colors of natures canvas is very awe-some. I love taking photos of landscapes, especially Hawaiian landscapes.
My hiking buddy willed herself to the ledge there. I wanted so badly to go there too, but I just couldn’t. My fear of heights got the best of me and I decided to stay put. Happy I got this shot of her! She was awestruck that she had enough courage to walk out there long enough to allow me to snap a few pics of her. Good Job Jenn!! I took my family out on this hike a few days later and it was very gusty! We were not able to stand on top the pillboxes for fear of being blown away! Definitely a hike to go on when you visit Oahu… and of course book a photo shoot with yours truly. Put it on your Things to Do/Places to Hike on Oahu bucket list.
