Redlands Photographer| Caruthers Canyon
Redlands Photographer | We were invited this weekend to go camping at Caruthers Canyon in the Mojave Desert. We’ve never been and it’s been a little over a year since we’ve had any personal contact with our neighbors because of the pandemic, it was a good opportunity to get out of the house, see new parts of California and get to know our neighbors.

Not to mention, my husband converted our Suburban into an Overlander. He’s always up to 4×4 Overlander camping trips and Caruthers Canyon was a great location. The mountains are incredible with the striping on the sides and a beautiful photographers contrast against the dry land. The weather was comfortable, not too hot, probably in the high 70’s with a nice cooling breeze.

We followed our neighbors and a 3 hour drive turned into a wrong turn 6 hour drive to get to our campsite.. which gave us playful ribbing with our neighbors… the sites were really pretty! These roads are for 4×4, high clearance vehicles and would recommend not to venture out on these roads unless you are appropriately vehicularly equipped.

I always have a high level of anxiety not wanting to be stuck without cell phone service in case we need help… I’m trying to overcome that as we do have a reliable vehicle and we are packed with a few days worth of food and water. The journey gives me anxiety but when I am at the destination, I usually decompress and have a very enjoyable time. Camping is fun!!

We didn’t get the royal of royal thrones campsite (as it was already spoken for) which is filled with these rock structures and a backdrop of the jagged mountains. Hubby and I took the short walk over to the campsite in the morning to check it out. It’s really awesome.

Not only do I love photographing families, but I do love landscapes, zoomed out and zoomed in. Love photographing the different plant species. I don’t know the names, but this tree has very pointy, hard leaves!

I think this is a juniper tree. I THINK.
We just spent one night and it was a nice little adventure. I’d go again, but definitely not the 6 hour drive path.
