What is an Acaí Bowl? (above image taken on 35mm film) Better yet, how do you pronounce it? Say Ah-Sigh-EEE, with your emphasis on the EEEE. Got it? Now that you know how to say it, you can order it without getting a funny look. An Acaí Bowl is a thickly blended bowl of frozen acaí berries topped with yummy goodness. It varies from place to place. I’ve had it with sliced bananas, strawberries, blueberries, coconut flakes and always with honey and crunchy granola. Some places make the frozen acaí blend a little runny for my taste, I like it a little thicker, kinda like a cross between a smoothie and frozen yogurt but a tad firm. It’s a great treat and very filling. I usually split mine with my husband. They are great on a hot day and supposed to be full of healthy anti-oxidants and such, but honestly, they are just delicious!! If you are in Waikiki, I’ve had it here. I’ve also had it in North Shore, which I’ll blog about in a future post. But definitely put it on your bucket list of “Things To Do on Oahu” while you are here. When I lived on the mainland, I had never had one, so I don’t know if they are mainstream there. Let me know if they are, I’d love to put it on my own list of “To Do’s” while I’m there visiting.
