Maddie was vacationing with her family on Oahu and thought it would be a fabulous idea to get her Senior Portraits done while she was here. Maddie is a serious student of film photography so it was natural that she wanted to find someone who’s work was shot in film and who’s work she loved. Imagine my surprise when I received her email requesting me to photograph her in film. Wow! Me? Really… in film?! I was more than honored and definitely thrilled. Up until then, I had been using film exclusively for my private work, mostly of my family out and about and sharing them with the world through my blog. I was excited to work with Maddie and put everything that I had learned on film with a new subject… this beautiful girl with a wonderful heart.
This entire photo session was shot on film with my Mamiya 645 AFD Medium Format camera with Kodak Portra 400 film and I think they turned out really beautiful. Maddie told me that “back in the old days” high school seniors went to a studio and had them take their senior portraits for the high school year book… well, they don’t do that these days. High school seniors are on their own to take their pictures for the high school yearbook. I laughed because that’s what THIS old timer did, I went to a studio!! I was honored, to say the least to photograph Maddie. I’m sure she’ll be the envy of all her friends to have hers taken in beautiful Hawaii!
I honestly could have photographed Maddie all day.. she was super duper fabulous and sweet. Thank you so much Maddie for a fun morning! I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors!! Warmest Aloha, ~j
